This Week's Predicament - Inspired or Copying?

Everyone wants something in their life; be it material success, a better way of living or simply being a 'success story'. And in following their various ways to their goal, their success, people start to be influenced and inspired by others - those who ARE the successes that made others realise "yeah, I want that too."

So you're inspired by someone, or somebodies, and thus are trying to make your own way in reaching your goal you've set yourself.

If you hit the dizzy heights of fame and fortune and strike that lucky balance, you could be the next success story people get their "yeah, I want that" moment.  Just like you did before them.

Yet it seems to push your boundaries and aspire from which inspired you, there is tension. Aggression. Cold distance and uncomfortable pauses with those who are close to you... Why?

To be inspired by someone to do something you want, sometimes its a similar or same thing. And this is where all of that tension and aggression and coldness starts to spike.

Copying. Are you copying when you're inspired by somebody? And if so, how do you become your true self if you can't try things that have been tried before by others?

When you're in school, you follow a set education programme to learn. Think of it, the same questions year, after year, after year. Another group of kids, then another, then another. All to learn. To educate.

So when you get inspired, you start from scratch to achieve something, to get the building blocks going. And with over 7 billion people living on this planet, damn straight someone will be doing the same thing you'll be working on. Are you gonna stop, give up just because someone's achieved what you want, or are further ahead of you or even the simple the knowledge of someone doing exactly what you're doing puts you off. Really? Just stop on something that got you inspired and hyped?

The world can get cold and lonely and sometimes you rarely find something you get truly excited about, rather than just learning to get a job.  And if you do, you'll start getting looks from people which will make you uncomfortable and you'll be feeling small and scared, all because you started to chase something that you got excited about. Weird, right? How people get so cold?

Being named a 'copycat' is not only childish or condensing, it's frustrating enough to make that spark in you start to diminish. Humans have been round long enough for people to have copied similar ideas or thoughts and there is nothing wrong with that. Read it. There is nothing wrong with it.

Straight up stealing someones own work, like photographs or artwork is different. But starting up the way someone else did, learning how they did has no negative connotations. It's a building block. A learning step. That's all. Everyone starts somehow and nobody gets it right instantly or easily.

Doesn't work out? Shake it off, it's a learning curve and anyone will tell you - they're the fucking business. Find something new to get excited over, the people who give you negativity aren't there for life. It's that crappy, clichéd, stinging truth that the people you might look a fool in front of aren't going to be near you later on in life.

Learn that.

Leaving school with no clue what you want to do? Explore options, don't bury your head in the sand. This is your time to educate yourself and find what gets you going. Be it music, literature, mechanics, chemistry, art, engineering, nursing, travelling WHATEVER. It's giving you a sense of belonging and you need that. You fucking need that in your life, no one is going to swoop in and save you from reality.

Focus on you, for crying out loud and stop chasing people to fall in love with you or sponging money off your mum to buy a new dress for some crappy friday night out. If you haven't learnt it yet, you will soon. The only person you need is yourself, it's YOUR life you have to live with so stop hiding in the fake comfort of Instagram or Tumblr. They aren't real. They aren't important and hiding in social media won't change what you're unhappy with. You're cheating yourself out of growing and creating yourself.

Feel like you're different to everyone else? Hold onto that. It's going to be the thing that moulds you.

Hey and if anyone says it's copying when you've been inspired? Laugh. Just laugh, because they don't get it and they may never will. We all start somewhere and won't be instant successes.

If you're getting scared and you want to run away from something you want to do, you're probably doing it right. Don't run, don't shun it and don't kill that spark. Keep going and pushing your boundaries.

Be inspired and look like a fool for aiming for something you want.  Not convinced? Watch this video and then see.

Have faith,
