Rainy days have a magical quality of making the day feel like it's free; free from responsibilities and chores, free from any problems or issues and most importantly, a day of contemplation.
Perhaps it's due to the fact that Scotland rains more than any other country in Europe that I have more days of thinking than days of sunshine and freedom. Instead of having days to surf or sunbathe like the babes of Australia and the sunny state of California, I have days of thinking and writing, locked away from the wind and rain. Scotland rains so much it's comically known for it's dark and windy weather, it's seen as an untamed land filled with hurricanes and haggis.
With summer bringing more sunshine these past few weeks, I'm taking this day to pause and collect myself. There are 5 things I'm sure of -
1. Watermelon with passionfruit and lime is the ultimate summer breakfast.
It's hydrating, it tastes the bomb and is super easy to put together. Give it a try, go on! Wake yourself up in a gentle but happy way.
2. We are what we consistently do.
My heart seems heavier these days and I think it's from a yearning to do more. Whatever we commonly do can define us, and either that thought makes you happy and relaxed or it makes you want to Do More. There is a time to relax and let your brain take a break from all the work you've put yourself through these past months and years, but if there's a burn, even a flicker of one inside of you urging you to do something then go do it. It's easy to say, hard to do but it couldn't be more true - you can change your life at any time.
3. People who share the same passions with you exist.
It's all too easy to feel alone in this vast world of 7 billion and a wide web of communities. And it might be hard and you might feel frightened, but reaching out and saying hello is the first step in finding and communicating with people you admire, like or have taken an interest in. It sounds simple when you think about it; it could even only take a few minutes typing to connect with someone and start a new friendship. You have passions for a reason, don't silence them.
4. There is more than one way to do things.
This is something I've been chanting in my head ever since I walked out of high school. Be it because the teachers drummed it into the heads of my fellow students and I, but there isn't only one road to accomplish things. Whatever way you go, it doesn't mean you're doing it 'wrong' or straying from your path or anything like that. You're taking a chance and that's important. You don't have to do what you think everyone else is doing to get where you want. For more info I'd look at this at 5.53 to learn about The Tarzan method.
5. It will all come out in the wash.
Maybe I'm naive or romcom's have made me life romantic, but I believe that whatever happens it will sort itself out. It will all come out in the wash means that things will reveal to you at their own time. That's my interpretation of it of course, but I strongly believe that no matter what happens, it will work out. It's a frightening thought when you're feeling alone and that you have no idea what you're doing with your life, buuuut things will fall into place.
That's not to say you sit there and wait for things to come to you, oh no you go out there and Start Somewhere and you'll look back and think 'It all came out in the wash'.
All the love,
Lou x
