Summer breathes new life into me. The sun beats down and I feel revitalised, stronger, happier. The sunshine lasts beyond a day, beyond three, so I think to myself "it's summer, it's finally here."I wear sparkly dresses, pretend I'm in YSL instead of high street, dance in the street, go for drinks during the day, laugh, laugh, laugh. I forget what worries me, just for a bit. The bills to pay, the flat to find, the to-do list that towers high. But then like all things, the sunshine ends and the dancing stops. Puddles grow, jumpers are thrown back on and I'm standing there in a dress from Forever 21, the sequins scratching my arms, no Saint Laurent in sight. The days glue themselves together, back to back and gloomy. The dress hangs sadly in the wardrobe. But like all things, the weather shall too change, the dress will be worn once more and the label it bares will lapse in importantance.
I tuck myself in oversized hoodies and dream of sunnier days. I think about it, how we must beat on, boats against the currents, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
